Frequently Asked Questions

These are general questions asked by many enquirers. There is a library of information sheets and downloadable pdf’s and short videos on our customer log in feature on this website for existing customers

Please email or call us if you have a question that is not answered about any of our small tractor range.

How does the guarantee and warranty work?

Rarely do we have a problem, but if you experience a problem, then you advise us through our Intranet facility on the website. This will give it a reference number, and it is also instantly registered with the Quality Control Department at the factory as well as ourselves

We decide on the course of action.

We either come to carry out any remedial work ourselves, or nominate one of our many agents and Agricultural Engineers to do the work on our behalf. During the Warranty Period, this is entirely at our cost.

We have a network of agents and Agricultural Engineers around the UK who carry out work on our request.

In France and Ireland, we have our own Engineers and Mechanics who we would
Instruct to come to you and carry out any remedial work necessary.

Can the tractors be Road Registered?

The Mahindra tractors are road legal world wide without any modifications. We partially complete the UK DVLC paperwork, and supply you with the other necessary documents.

In the UK

Applications to road register have to be made by buyers, recent legislation on money laundering means that we cannot do this on behalf of customers. However, we do most of the registration process for our customers.

You must then submit the paperwork we supply together with
a) your personal cheque which must be in the same name as the applicant.
b) Either, your original passport or driving licence
c) Two utility bills
d) Certificate of Insurance – we recommend the NFU.

France & other EEC Countries.

We supply a full French Carte Gris Registration pack for all buyers in France which has an English translation of all documents. Completion of the documents for the Prefecture has to be done by the applicant, but our Carte Gris Information Pack makes it ‘easy peasy’. No other tractor dealers offer this service.

The tractors are compliant and carry the full Certificate of Conformity in order to make registration in any EU country an easy formality. If anyone encounters a difficulty at all, then we advise the factory who make contact with the relevant authority in that country to resolve any questions they might have about the tractor.

I have hilly or sloping ground?

The tractors are used throughout the world in all types of terrain. The Mahindra tractor will comfortably negotiate 62 degree slopes, upwards or downwards. Traction is achieved by either the four wheel drive, the low range gears, or in extremis, by using the diff lock. Professional Forestry users negotiate extreme conditions without getting stuck or losing any control. We’re currently compiling an advertising feature on Forestry and Woodland users in some of the most inhospitable and remote parts of the UK and Ireland.

How easy is it to service the tractor?

The most difficult thing having serviced the tractor is what to do with the bucket of waste oil ! – just warm the engine for a moment, then undo the two bungs on the engine, two on the transmission, and one on the front axle. The engine oil and diesel filters are easily accessible spin on and off, the hydraulic filter also which is safely behind a panel by your left heel, the air filter is simple, just undo one wing nut and slide the filter out, either knock it against a wall, or use the vacuum cleaner if you’re wife isn’t around. The refill points on the tractor are all on the surface and have an orange screw top, each has an integral dipstick on the other side of the filler cap. As I said, the most difficult thing is what to do with the bucket of waste oil.

Are Parts easily available?

Please see the Parts section of the website, Mahindra are a world wide company, parts are available in 24 – 48 hours, anywhere in the world. We hold all parts and have never been stuck for a part. The European Central Parts Operation in Holland automatically update our parts stock via DHL.

Do we have to buy Filters and service parts from you?

No, we can supply you on a 24hour basis, and all customers are given a free service kit when they buy a tractor, but all filters are cross referenced with Fram, Coopers, Unipart and many others.

Are they easy to drive?

Tractors are easy to drive, anyone could drive one. Obviously there is more to it than this, and we give extensive training and explanation. In addition, there are on our customer log in section, a number of downloadable Pdf’s that explain much more, as well as training videos, not to forget the Operators Manual that we have written and photographed ourselves. The manual alone gains plaudits from industry professionals, and has been commended by a Nationally recognized Railway operating company.

Do we deliver?

We deliver throughout the whole of the UK, Ireland, and France. Recently we’ve delivered to Papa Westray which is an offshore Island, off the Orkneys, and to weather stations and Fishery Research Stations on remote rocky outcrops of Scotland and Ireland. For a recent delivery to Flat Holm Island for the University of Bristol, we hired an old landing craft to take the tractor from the mainland to the Island. Its fair to say that If you’ve been able to get there, then we’ll deliver there for you.

A selection of our wide customer base
Smallholders

'Is it Organic' was one of the most frequently used phrases of the past ten to fifteen years. People became more interested about the food they ate, where it came from and how it was grown. This helped the success of the TV Chefs and Food programmes, and so many people began to desire to own a house with some land.

This to some extent created the growth in people owning a larger house in the country, with it, and the decline in farming incomes led on to the boom in conversion of barns and farms into residential use.

All of this led more and more people into owning a smallholding, and with it came the occasional Pig or Sheep, and of course the childrens pony.
These are the primary reasons why there is such a huge market for the Compact Tractor. A large percentage of buyers are those who who suffer from the 20th century problem of not enough leisure time (or energy after their working day) who hanker after a better quality of life.

Step into the frame the modern compact tractor, which, together with a few implements, results in self management of your property and much satisfaction at seeing the results.

Topping the grass and keeping the fields in good condition, Creating or rotovating the Vegetable Garden, maybe digging a pond, doing the fencing, moving logs or building materials, - the compact tractor became the unit of power that all smallholders turn to. What is essential to them is that it is reliable, is of a build quality that will give many many years of good service, and affordable. Many of our Smallholder customers were novices, some with extensive experience, from 2 acres to 50 acres, being a smallholder just isn't possible without a good compact tractor, - with a bad one or an unreliable one, - life becomes a nightmare.

Horse Owners & Stables

Every horse owner wants to spend more time riding and enjoying their horses and less time doing the laborious and hard chores. Once they've bought a compact tractor, the paddock topping is a once a fortnight job, the dung heap is wholly moved on a Saturday morning, replacing fence posts is only a couple of hours, and hay bales and bags of feed quickly and easily moved.
The 254 tractor will lift big round bales on a front end loader or the rear three point linkage. No other small tractor has the muscular capability to lift with ease 772kgs on the three point linkage, or 700kgs on the front end loader.

Riding and Equestrian Establishments

The horse owning community feature prominently in our customer list. From a lady with a horse or two on a couple of acres, through to large and small Riding Schools. Racing Stables and Studs at the other end of the spectrum sometimes with many horses all having the need for a compact tractor. Each have the same chores to address, Paddocks, Fields and Meadows to be Topped and Harrowed, a Menage to level, or the rapidly growing muck heap to move, or load into trailers. It is in these scenarios that the Mahindra Compact Tractor is the reliable tractor of choice of many, it makes laborious and heavy duties easily and quickly managed

Country Houses & Estate Owners

There are many owners of large country houses and estates who have a need for a mechanisation in order to carry out the laborious duties of land management. Not always is a conventional large tractor needed or desired.

This is where the compact tractor excels. It doesn't make a negative impact on good lawns, yet it excels over the small ride on tractors by being able to undertake literally acres of grass cutting in a single day. A Field Topper can keep meadows and paddocks in good condition, a front end loader can move heavy materials around quickly and easily, even felled timber can be cleared by towing - weights of over five tons can be pulled with ease.

Driveway holes and ruts need filling with fresh gravel ? - use the link box to lift, tip and smooth - have a log burner ? then chopping logs with a log splitter is fun, an hour gives enough for a month or so. Creating a vegetable plot ? - easy peasy, and you don't dig the ground yourself, - use a PTO powered rotovator, do all the heavy backbreaking jobs with your bottom firmly planted on the tractor seat, there's no point in having PTO power and hydraulic capability and doing the heavy physical stuff yourself.

This design for use concept continues throughout, and it is aimed at giving the user reserves of capability for all kinds of tasks. Previously unaddressed levels of comfort and 'user friendliness' - you don't get off after a days work feeling wrecked, you get off it feeling ready for going out in the evening, not falling asleep early in the chair.

When you put all this into a machine with unequalled levels of engineering excellence and build quality, you have a machine that will give many, many years of reliable commercial or domestic use within an affordable package.

Local Government, Institutions

We have supplied tractors to a variety of Institutions ranging from HM Prisons to all types of Religeous Communities, NHS Hospitals, Public Schools, National Trust, Local Authorities to Allotment Societies. The pre purchase evaluation process that such bodies go through prior to placing an order is exhaustive. For such enquirers, we have a wealth of detailed information and data that might be useful if they have to put a proposal to a Committee or if they are applying for Grants or Lottery Funding.

Builders, Landscapers and Commercial

Undoubtedly the real acid test of any compact tractor has to be in the hands of the commercial and professional user. They're the ones who give equipment real hard work from its arrival on site on an ongoing daily basis. If there are any failings in equipment, this is the scenario where it will be revealed. This is the testing area in terms of durability and reliability where the Mahindra pedigree really counts. Being one of the worlds largest tractor manufacturers, all their experience leads into build quality, engineering integrity and user comfort.

Having more familiarity with machinery and attachments, this group of users have no sentimentality, and little tolerance of any failings. Brutally all they want is reliability, economy, capability and a comfortable seat so they get off it at the end of the day and don’t feel like they’ve been beaten up ! This is the group who would be intolerant of any failings or downtime. This is the group, who, whilst they might tend to overload, make the tractor exert more, and regularly ask more of their tractor than the occasional user. They are also the group who look further into ease of routine maintainance and easy availability of spare parts because downtime means loss of earnings.

Creating stylish gardens out of neglected or virgin sites, digging footings and service trenches with a backhoe, moving a few hundred tons of soil and rubble with a front end loader, lifting pallets of heavy material on front or rear end pallet forks, powering a post driver, log shredder or PTO driven cement mixer, these are the tasks at which the Mahindra Compact Tractor excels. The versatility of these compact tractors with attachments is why so many choose the Mahindra rather than a small tracked mini diggers.

Boat Yards and Sailing Clubs

The role of a compact tractor in boatyards and marinas is rapidly being recognised. Their huge towing capability (5500kgs) and the front and rear boom connection for towing and pushing, makes them excellent workhorses in this situation. We also fit them with Marine Horns, Warning Bleepers, Rotating Yellow Beacons. Many Boatyards and Yachting Clubs have a Beach\River\Tidal launching base and for this often install double rear wheels in order to give better traction on soft mud and sand if a causeway or ramp isn't available.

Caravan and Camping Sites

Caravan and Camp sites throughout the UK and France use our tractors and equipment to keep their properties in tip top condition. The Mahindra tractor is the daily workhorse for maintainance and necessary duties. Grass cutting of large areas, clearing timber, moving caravans and mobile homes, creating utility areas and adventure play areas are all easily completed, not to mention towing of heavy trailers for waste clearance.

Many have weed sprayers, water bowsers, hedge cutters for the closed season work. Driveways and hard areas which have become rutted and holed, are easily and quickly resurfaced with gravel.

Industrial & Larger Commercial Users

Tractors are becoming more and more recognised for larger Industrial & Commercial applications.

Major Industrial and Household names use our tractors to tow multiple small trailers around their Central Distribution Sites.

Railway companies use them in environments where larger machines are unable to access competently.

Forestry and Woodland Management companies particularly use them because of their nimble surefootedness in all types of terrain. This is because they combine their towing capability which is in excess of 5000kgs with their four wheel drive and diff lock features.
